Which format should you use?
JPG is the universal choice for photographs. It uses lossy compression to produce small files at the cost of some detail; the trade-off is invisible at quality 85+. JPG does not support transparency — transparent pixels become white when you convert from PNG or WEBP. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, making it ideal for logos, screenshots, icons, and any image with sharp edges or text. PNG files are larger than equivalent JPGs. WEBP is a newer Google-developed format that gives you the best of both: lossy or lossless modes, transparency support, and roughly 25–35% smaller files than JPG at equivalent quality. Every modern browser supports it; some legacy software still doesn't.

What this converter does
Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP file and convert to any of the other formats. Conversion happens in your browser — no upload to a server. Useful when a website demands a specific format your camera or screenshot tool produces something else.
JPG to PNG conversion
Converting JPEG to PNG is technically lossless from that point onward, but the JPEG's original compression artefacts are baked into the new PNG. Useful when you need transparency support (PNG supports it, JPEG does not) but the original wasn't a JPEG. The new PNG file will typically be 3-10× larger than the JPEG it came from because PNG is uncompressed visually.
PNG to JPG conversion (with transparency flattening)
Converting PNG to JPEG drops transparency. This tool flattens any transparent areas onto a solid white background by default — usually what you want for ID photos, document scans, or web images. For graphics with non-white intended backgrounds, the result will look wrong. Test before submitting to a form.
WebP to JPG conversion
WebP is a modern format from Google. While supported in browsers, many Indian government portals and older photo software cannot open WebP files. If your phone or screenshot tool produced a WebP and you need to upload to an Indian e-filing portal, convert to JPEG first using this tool.
Common Indian use cases
Converting iPhone HEIC exports (which often come out as JPEG anyway, but sometimes as WebP) to standard JPEG before uploading to government portals. Converting screenshots from PNG to JPEG to fit under file-size limits on exam application forms. Converting designer-supplied PNG logos to JPEG when a portal accepts only JPEG. Converting Android camera WebP captures to JPEG for legacy software compatibility.
Disclaimer
Each conversion may introduce some quality change depending on source and target formats. JPEG→PNG conversion bakes existing JPEG artefacts. PNG→JPEG conversion loses transparency. For archival or professional use, always keep the original file in its highest-quality format alongside any converted versions.
FAQ
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to any server.
Why does my PNG-to-JPG output have a white background?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent pixels are replaced with white. To preserve transparency, convert to PNG or WEBP instead.
Can I convert HEIC photos from iPhone?
HEIC isn't yet supported here. Open the photo on your iPhone and choose "Save to Files as JPEG" first.
